Guests will learn about the innovative funding mechanism used to support development and tour the ENMAX district energy centre, a key component of the East Village project.

The ENMAX district energy centre uses the latest technology to generate thermal energy at a centralized plant and then distribute it through a network of underground pipes, providing thermal energy at a lower total cost with higher reliability and greater efficiency.

District energy is one practical way that Calgary's municipal government delivers on its commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It is also an excellent example of how The City has ensured that energy planning is coordinated with land use, infrastructure planning and capital investment.

The Dinner of the Americas is the CCA-Alberta's signature biennial event. This year's gala dinner will be jointly hosted by the three Canadian Councils for the Americas to mark the occasion of the Inter-American Development Bank's (IDB) Annual General Assembly and related programs, which will take place in Calgary from March 25 to 28.

The Dinner of the Americas will cap the IDB's Private Sector Day agenda on March 25. (Please check the IDB's website for more information on the agenda and registration for the Private Sector Day program.)

The IDB is a key partner for Canada's strategy in Latin America and the Caribbean. It is the region's largest provider of multinational funding, having funded some $16 billion in projects in 2009, and its lending supports developmental projects and infrastructure growth. At the height of the recent international financial crisis, Canada extended $4 billion in temporary capital to boost the IDB's ability to meet the region's financing needs. Canada subsequently played a key role in securing a permanent $70 billion capital increase to ensure that the IDB's leading role in Latin America and the Caribbean will continue for many years into the future.

Further details on the Dinner of the Americas, including the event program, keynote speaker and special guests, will be announced over the coming weeks.
